Documentary to Reveal the Harsh New Realities of Undocumented Irish Immigration to the United States Post-9/11

Filmmaker, Charles Lamont, chronicles the lives of ?illegal? Irish immigrants living New York City. He wants to show Ireland?s new generation of US-bound immigrants the problems, disappointments, and struggles they?ll face in a post 9/11 America in a new documentary named ?Under the Radar.?
?Undocumented Irish immigrants face a vastly different circumstance to those who came to New York in the 1980s and 90?s,? mentioned Charles Lamont, Producer of the upcoming documentary Below the Radar. ?Because 9/11, federal and state authorities no longer turn a blind eye to illegal immigration. American public opinion has turned against illegal immigrants, as evidenced in the state of Arizona?s new immigration laws. It?s a various planet now so I want this documentary to show those contemplating coming here illegally the reality of living life below the radar. I also want to make the 40 million Irish-Americans aware of the plight of the new generation who just want an chance to live and function openly.?
An estimated one thousand Irish men and women are leaving Ireland every week, according to the Irish Economic and Social Investigation Institute (ESRI). Several are taking their chances in the United States, but only the lucky few are coming with the right to remain and function. In the 1980s, it was simpler to enter the United States on a student or tourist visa, overstay its duration, and live a decent life. The economy was carrying out well and enforcement of immigration laws was lax. The circumstance has changed substantially for these days?s generation of undocumented hopefuls coming to America. These days, the undocumented or illegal alien faces a bleaker future due to the struggling economic climate, and the draconian immigration policies instituted given that 9/11.
