Al-Jawary lived in Baghdad and when he applied for his visa, used a fake Iraqi passport and said he wanted to come to the U.S. Once he got to New York, he worked with at least two others to plan the car bombings. Each vehicle contained propaganda from Black September, and the bombs were clearly similar to letter bombs sent around the world by the terrorist organization the previous year. CIA investigative notes obtained by the AP indicate that Al-Jawary’s nom de guerre was Abu Walid al-Iraqi. Hawari, who took his orders from Arafat.

A federal jury in New York found him guilty of not only planting the bombs, but also of being a member of Black September. Ron Kuby, Al-Jawary’s defense attorney, says that by the time the FBI arrested Al-Jawary, he had hung up his terrorism hat. The AP investigative piece chronicles Al-Jawary’s possible role as master bomb maker in several airline bombings in Greece, Lebanon, Tunis, Bagdad. He was apprehended along with 11 Palestinians on the Austrian German border found with bombing materials in an apparent attempt in 1979 to hit Israeli targets in Germany. For some reason though the bombs did not go off. Two of the cars had been towed from their spots on Fifth Avenue in front of the banks and the third was located at Kennedy Airport after the FBI was called.

Suitcase bombs made with e-cells were the 15 May trademark. Its leader was a skilled bomb-maker named Husayn al-Umari, commonly referred to as Abu Ibrahim. His fingerprints were all over the bombs, and there was other evidence as well. However, the NSA (National Security Agency) decryption was never entered into evidence, as the NSA and the State Department likes to keep that sort thing secret. At that time, he was told, the use of an e-cell was a bomb signature. This was my guy.

They uncovered a fake Jordanian passport behind an air conditioning duct and bomb materials from a room Al-Jawary had rented at a hotel near JFK. Agents recovered a copy of a Jordanian driver’s license he had used to rent the cars. Someone asked what if Pakistan bombed America or some kind of terrorist act. Well, his (Tancredo’s) response was he would first retaliate with some sort of military act on Mecca and then on Pakistan or whomever acted us. Also found was literature on how to build ?dirty bombs? The FBI report also stated there was evidence linking James Cummings to white supremacist groups.

Federal documents link the explosives used in a letter bomb that exploded at the post office to an attempted attack by Khalid Duhham Al-Jawary on Israeli targets in 1973. Postal worker William Figueroa was injured in the blast at the post office. The bombs failed to detonate and were discovered after two cars on Fifth Avenue were towed. The FBI learned about a third car at JFK and notified police. Al-Jawary used those trips to scout locations to bomb.

His fingerprints were all over the bombs, and there was other evidence as well. However, the NSA (National Security Agency) decryption was never entered into evidence, as the NSA and the State Department likes to keep that sort thing secret. AP has a fascinating investigative report about a PLO terrorist, Khalid Duhham Al-Jawary, convicted in 1993, just before the first twin Towers bombing event, for failed bomb plots in Manhattan in 1973. Now aged 63 years, the question is where will he likely be deported after release on February 19th and what will he do? In 1973 a terrorist named Khalid Duhham al-Jawary built three powerful car bombs and placed them around New York City. Fortunately, his plot failed and he was captured, tried under our criminal justice system, and imprisoned.
