The current number of immigrants in the country is about 37. 46 million and 32% remains illegally in the U.S. territory1. According to the Border Protection, Counter-Terrorism, and controlling illegal immigration, approved last year by the government, foreigners who work and live undocumented in the country has a strong and heavy penalties, but how hard will the battle of the Missing are such a large amount of consumers and entrepreneurs, including immigrants, to the U.S. economy?
As is apparent from studies done in the past year, the contribution of immigrants in the U.S. economy is anything but negligible. One of the conclusions of a national study commissioned by the National Venture Capital Association and made by Stuart Anderson and Mary Platzer last year: “Immigrant entrepreneurs and professionals contribute significantly to job creation and innovation … is the striking tendency of immigrants to start and grow successful American companies2.
A study by the UC Berkeley School of Information and Duke University confirmed that the numbers:. . . “25. 3% of the engineering and technology companies started in the U.S. 1995-2005 and at least one key founder was foreign-born immigrants … Self-created companies that produced 52 billion U.S. dollars in sales and employed 450,000 workers in 2005 … immigrants have become a major driving force behind the creation of new businesses and intellectual property in the U.S. “3.
Meanwhile other immigrants have joined the workers in construction, landscaping or restaurants that do their work for lower wages, higher prices to allow for customers. Some managers accept that those conditions would be difficult and expensive to meet the challenges faced in these markets.
Other important issues are the work focused on the immigrant needs such as international phone cards, specialized supermarkets or restaurants. These projects grew following the purchasing behavior of immigrants. The number of immigrants is not that important to ruin the U.S. economy, but it’s good enough for small companies into profitable enterprises.
Now the aliens are not only consumers of these products and services, but the Americans can meet their needs of the emerging market.
An illustrative case Viapin. com, a prepaid phone company in Virginia began in 2004, reaching almost 1. 000 customers in the first year, another 19 today. 000 customers have shared them. The idea of the company was to offer a service for immigrants so they can contact their families around the world. Now, not only in Latin American, African, Asian and European immigrants to use their service but also the North Americans buy Viapin products to soldiers, students or family members who are temporarily outside the country call. The company has annual sales are approximately $ 516,000 dollars4.
The U.S. News & World Report found other example of a business created for immigrants in New Jersey: Alfredo Rodriguez owns a 53,000 square meter supermarket, he transformed it to experience the taste of Latin American shoppers five years ago. Today 90% of his customers are Latin American immigrants, and purchases of 5,000 customers who visit his shop weekly its annual sales in return for $ 9,000,000 dollars5.
Whether the absence of immigrant influences or not the U.S. economy must first be answered by us, immigrant employers or employees, customers or vendors immigrant and immigrant neighbors who deal daily with the situation.
A reform that businesses would be immigrants around these issues into account before the final period. Immigration is a very important phenomenon that some have given way in our society, so we have two options, either go against it or against economic benefits.
