Question by HTP: What immigration form should be filed for “green card” based on H-1 visa?
Currently I am holding an H1B1 temporary worker’s visa, I would like to know what form has to be filed to get green card based on H1B1 visa. I have had visa for 6 years and it expires this year.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

You cannot file for green card based on your h1b visa. In rare situations the company you work for can do this if they can’t find an American for your position. Make sure you don’t overstay when your visa expires, otherwise you will be barred from returning to the US for 10 years.

Question by carlos2006: Is “US immigrant visa” the same thing as “green card”?

An immigrant visa is a document that gives you permission to move to the US permanently. When you use it, you become a Permanent Resident of the US (also known as a Legal Permanent Resident or LPR).
A Green Card is the document issued to LPRs to prove their status.
